Signage

Signage

Signage is the design or use of signs and symbols to communicate a message. Signage also means signs collectively or being considered as a group. Signage generally means a graphic display used to convey information. There are different types of signage, including indoor and outdoor signs, wayfinding signage and instructional signs. Everything from a No Entry sign to Macdonald's Golden Arches exists to be easily recognised and to convey a clear message using images and words.

1) Warning Signs

Traffic signs help establish a means of communication between road users and transportation engineers. These come under an umbrella term of traffic control devices, that encompass traffic signs, road markings, signals, etc. Traffic signs in India are considered the most important traffic control devices. These include Regulatory signs, Informatory signs, and Warning signs. Traffic signs serve as essential communicators, protecting drivers and pedestrians from potential dangers on the road. With over 400 road accidents occurring daily on Indian roads, resulting in significant loss of life and costing 3% of the country's total annual GDP, understanding traffic signs is very important for ensuring road safety.

2) Mandatory Signs

Understanding traffic signs is crucial for optimum safety on the road. These traffic signs communicate the basic rules and regulations of road safety in the form of extremely simple graphics that can be easily understood within seconds. In fact, any person applying for a driving license, for example, needs to be completely aware of all the traffic signs to pass the theoretical exam of a driving test. Discussed below are the various types of traffic signs or symbols for Indian roads.

3) Facility Signs

Facility signs, or informative signs, guide drivers to services and facilities like gas stations, hospitals, or parking areas, and are typically blue, brown, or white with white legends, aiding navigation and ensuring a smoother journey.
